How secure is PhantomSnap?

PhantomSnap uses AES-256-GCM encryption, the same standard used by governments and financial institutions. Your photos are encrypted locally on your device using a key derived from your password with PBKDF2 (100,000 iterations). The encrypted data is then hidden within the decoy image using steganography. Even if someone gets the decoy image, they cannot recover your original photo without PhantomSnap.

What happens to my original photos?

Your original photos are encrypted and embedded invisibly within the decoy images using steganography. The decoy image in your Photos app IS your encrypted photo — not a placeholder or reference. It contains all the data needed to restore your original. When you sync to iCloud or backup your phone, these decoy images carry your encrypted photos with them. PhantomSnap is just the key to unlock them.

Can I recover photos if I delete the app?

Yes! Your encrypted photos ARE the decoy images in your Photos app, not stored in PhantomSnap. Even if you delete PhantomSnap, your encrypted photos remain safe in your Photos app, iCloud backups, and wherever else you've synced them. Reinstall PhantomSnap anytime and restore your originals from any decoy image. The app is just a tool — your photos live independently in your Photos library.

Do decoy images look suspicious?

No, decoy images appear as regular photos in your library. You can choose from various styles: blurred versions of the original, AI-generated images (nature, food, animals, portraits), or custom overlays. They sync to iCloud, appear in albums, and behave exactly like normal photos. No one can tell they contain hidden encrypted data.

What's included in the free version?

Free users can encrypt 1 photo and restore 1 photo per day. This includes access to all encryption features, decoy styles, and recovery options. Premium subscription ($9.99/month or $99.99/year) removes all limits, allowing unlimited encryptions and restorations.

Does PhantomSnap access my photos?

PhantomSnap only accesses photos you explicitly select. It never scans, uploads, or analyzes your photo library. All processing happens locally on your device. We don't have servers, don't collect data, and don't require an account. Your privacy is absolute.

Is there an Android version?
